postheadericon For Love's Sake?

My dad sent me this article from the Times of India - I read it and my jaw dropped to the floor. Surely, this is isn't love, but a very flawed idea of it.

This was sent in by Reese(Grumpy):

Giving up your life for a loved one is the ultimate _expression of love.

I can't see this as that. It's just a stupid act. I'm sure that they think that it's an act of love, but to me it just shows how uncaring they are. Build a monument (Taj Mahal), or just a cardboard sign. But to throw away the most precious gift is asinine.

I think you're right - this is sad and confused.

Hi Jay and welcome!

This is sad, misguided love. It just baffles me that someone would be willing to give up their lives for something like this - what good does it do anyone?

It's nothing to do with "love" but loving the idea of "being in love"Indian style!! We need to stop making those love story movies which gives these young, naive kids a sense of immortality or stupid idea of glory! Once you are dead, you are 6 ft under!Nothing else!!
Sad that it comes to this!!As a (Indian)society we need to grow up , A LOT!!

Yes i agree, this isn't an expression of love!! I think it's way more beautiful if they stay together and don't do anything to contract AIDS. A relationship isn't all about sex.

Hi Foodie and Amy!

Glad to have you both here. True, I agree, this is not love, but that is what the participants think it is and it is sad that they are so misguided. Abstinance is the only way, but their sadly skewed way of looking at love will not permit them to see that. Hope it's just a passing phase in the community. We cannot afford to allow people to deliberately afflict themselves with this dreadful disease.

Yeah, only yesterday my friends and I were discussing how thankful we are Bollywood has undergone such a transformation! Movies like "Black", "Kyon Ki" etc. may never have attracted mainstream actors in the '80's. These would have been movies strictly reserved for Shabana Azmi/Smita Patil and the like.
