postheadericon Meme: Five Unknown Aspects About Me

I was tagged by Gautami for this meme. Thank you, dear one!

1.I have stylish handwriting (or so they would tell me in school/college) and was often selected to write the Bachelor degree certificates in calligraphy for the University of Bombay for a small payment.

2.My college dorm was right next door to a famous Mumbai Auditorium or theater as we would call it here in North America and it aired popular plays every night. The ushers were our friends and every evening at intermission they would tell me and my friends where the empty seats were and we would watch the second half of the play. Now when I look back, I realize that I spent three years of my life watching a play almost everyday. Why am I not in the performing arts or how is it I review books instead of plays?

3.I love "people watching". When I travel, I will deliberately go to the airport early so that I can watch people...not sure what that says about me, but it's one of the most interesting things to do. Often I will strike up conversations with people that interest me and I'll have to say I have learned a lot. I would like to take this to the next level and travel with my camera in tow (a la Desmond Morris), but I'm not sure how well that would go down with most people!

4.I am a gypsy by nature. I find it very difficult to settle down in one place for a long time. I have lived in India, the Middle East, the UK and now Canada...I love Canada but am starting to feel the 7-year itch. I'd like to go live in Singapore (closer to India) for a few years, but we'll have to see.

5. I love attending seminars, conferences, talks etc. I think it's because it fits in so neatly with my love of learning. I love to record things I learn at these seminars - I think I might have made a good reporter!

Well, there you have it, 5 aspects that you may or may not have known about me.
Thanks for tagging me Gautami, I have enjoyed playing!

Love learning these things about you! I like to people watch as well.

Wow, I'm so impressed about your hand writing! I bet it's beautiful especially since you were recruited for your skills.

I can relate to three. I love people, I love to know/learn things and I love to visit new places.

Thanks Angel, for playing this.

Love you, GIRL!

Where in Mumbai was this?

Hi ml That's the same reason I love memes, too, I love learning more about all my blogger friends! About my handwriting, it's probably not as good as it once was - I spend too much time typing and not enough time writing!

Hi Gautami Ohhhh, yeah, travel, that's probably my most favorite thing to do in the world!

Lots of love back at ya!

Hi Parth

This was Sophia College, the hostel is right beside the Sophia Bhaba Hall - I hope it still exists! Are you from Bombay, too, Parth?

Lotus, you are such an interesting person! I think it's really great that you have calligraphic (is that a word?) talent. I tried to build my skills a long time ago and it ended up looking like backward chicken scratches. So much for my penmanship!!! :))

Lotus Reads said...

LOL beenzzz I'd willingly exchange my skills in calligraphy to be able to draw like you. That is some serious talent you have!

yes, you do indeed have lovely handwriting.

Very much from Mumbai. Spent the first 22 years of my waking life before I got to the US. Though, Andheri was the center of the universe for me :-)

Awww, thanks, Melissa! Nice of you to say!

*hugs*

Cool Parth! I am always excited to meet a fellow-Mumbaikar. Do you miss the city at all? I'm quite familiar with Andheri. I did my 11th and 12th at Mithibai. How about you?

I'm a people watcher as well! I like looking at people because you are often reminded of other people you have met. Like i'll be watching someone and thinking, "Oh jane had that kind of hair once" or "He walks exactly like Jo!" It's a fun hobby! I think i could be a potential gypsy (i've moved five times in the last five months) but i think i'll be staying in the same place for a very long time :( Good post by the way!

Loved reading about the meme. You will cringe if you see my scrawl, that is what I call it. Call it handwriting would be such an insult ;)

I have seen fewer plays than the fingers on my hand.
Mithibai? That had a Microbiology dept?
Well now we know a bit more about ya. :)

Hey Amy nice to see you here! Yeah, watching people is probably my favorite waste of time! lol Ofcourse, it is a sobering thought to think they might be watching me, too! ;) Will visit you soon. Seen any nice Bollywood movies lately?

Hey Sanjay Have you noticed, doctors always have the very worst handwriting? I would say you're in good company! :) You don't like Theatre/theater? Really?

karmic said...

@Lotus, Yes docs do have bad handwriting. Ahh some company eh? :) It's not like I don't like theatre, I just did not have money in my pockets at that stage.
You know that poor student fella? That was me! ;)

I did my engineering at SPCE (Sardar Patel College of Engineering); had my school in the same campus. Junior college was the farthest I traveled. Parle (E), at Sathaye College :-)

@Sanjay, gosh, yes, I know all about being a poor student, that's why I bless that usher a 1000 times over - he always let us in free! :)

@Trupti, lovely to see you here. Yes, we are in a bit of a deep freeze, aren't we? But guess it's a lot colder in NF. Take care, sweet lady and visit again when you can,

@Parth, that's cool, always a pleaure meeting someone from Bombay! Do you get to travel back a lot?

Parth said...

Nope, been back only 3 times in the past 7 years :-(

I never accessed this blog of yours! Its so COOL!!!! BTW which theatre are you talking about?

BTW I absolutely love calligraphy and have recently got bamboo pen and sumi ink and try to incorporate that in my paintings!

I love people watching too!

I absolutely love seminars and conferences. I had started my masters program to eventually get a PhD but didn't go through it!

Hi Sai!

So happy to see you here! This was the Sophia Bhaba Hall, I was a Sophia College hostelite! :)

I love anything to do with people and culture, hence this blog, but I don't always find the time to update it...I really ought to because there's so many fascinating things in the world of anthropology!

You are an amazing and talented artist, I would love to see your paintings with the chinese calligraphy, wow!

And it's never too late to do your Masters and PhD, Sai, go for it!!!

Sai said...

Hey Lotus:
I did get my masters. I got it from Univ of Michigan, Ann Arbor but didn't continue with the phd program. I definitely will go for it eventually. It is just a lot of commitment for four to five years of your life.

Sai said...

Of course Sophia *slapping my forehead*!!!! I used to go there to catch a play as well. Once my m-i-l and I went for a late night play and our car wouldn't start. We had to wait for an hour till about 1AM for someone to come and pick us up!!!!

LOL...I was trying to recollect the names of different theatres and remembered St. Andrews Bandra, Prithvi and NCPA!!!!!

Lotus Reads said...

Sai, the best of luck to you when you decide to the phd program. Yes, it's a huge commitment but I have no doubt you'll sail through it!

I left Bombay in 1992, I have only been back twice (just overnight visits), I miss the place so much! I saw my college (Sophia's) in "Laage Raho Munna Bhai" and was so excited, I had everyone in the house stop what they were doing so that they could come see it! lol
